This workshop, organised by the SERENA project (EJP SOIL), aims to foster an interactive dialogue among researchers and policy stakeholders with expertise in soil mapping. The session will focus on the complex relationship between soil ecosystem services and the threats they face, especially in the context of climate change and land use changes.

Soils provide numerous vital ecosystem services but are under growing threat. Traditionally, soil ecosystem services and threats have been evaluated separately, even though they are known to interact in significant ways. To explore this further, the workshop will examine bundles of soil threats and ecosystem services, which can be a useful tool for visualising their co-localisation across the EU. These bundles will be presented in the form of maps for both the present day and projections for 2050.

Through this session, participants will contribute to an in-depth understanding of the evolving dynamics of soil at the EU level and the potential pathways to address these challenges.
